Workshops

Workshop 1: Women's Rights and Development – October 31-November 5, 2006 (Kathryn Libal and Teresa McDowell (UConn), and Ibrahim Siddik and Taghreed Farahat (MU), Facilitators): This workshop will provide the tools for participants to understand the intersections between women’s rights and human rights; to gain an appreciation of the interdependency of social, economic, cultural, political and civil rights as they relate to gender equality and justice; and to examine the connections between women and development and women’s human rights through local, national, and international case studies.

Workshop 2: Women’s Entrepreneurship and Leadership – Spring 2007 (Nancy Bull and Richard Cheney (UConn) and Gamal Elmoursy (MU), Facilitators): The focus of this workshop will be on how to train female entrepreneurs and small business trainer/consultants to start or expand a small business, with the ultimate goal being to increase the number of women entrepreneurs who are actively earning their own income. Strengths unique to women’s leadership styles will be highlighted, including avenues for empowering women in leadership roles.

Workshop 3: Supporting Women and Families Through Community Resource Mobilization – Spring 2008 (Teresa McDowell (UConn) and Taghreed Farahat (MU), Facilitators). This workshop will focus on improving women’s capacity to strengthen families and improve communities through collaborative action, including strategies for acknowledging and supporting the integral role women play in families and community. The use of research in family studies and community development will be explored through training in participatory action research (PAR).
