Master's Degree Training at UConn
Two junior faculty at Menoufia University in departments relevant
to women in development will begin study for their Master of Arts
degrees in International Studies at UConn in January 2007. Ms. Shymaa
Ata and Ms. Riham Moustafa Master’s will develop plans of study
that include the course work necessary to earn UConn’s Graduate
Certificate in Women’s Studies. After completing degrees at
UConn, these women will return to the faculty at MU to help implement
teaching and research programs on women in development.

From Menoufia University to UConn:
Dr. Ragab Zein, Professor of Agricultural Economics, Faculty of Agriculture (June-August 2007): Research on crop yields in Egypt with Boris Bravo-Ureta, UConn’s project co-director, and co-authored a paper with Bravo-Ureta and Ibrahim Abou-Saad (an MU junior faculty member working on a Ph.D. in agricultural economics at UConn titled: “Technical Efficiency in Egyptian Agriculture: Stochastic Production Frontier Estimates for Wheat, Corn And Rice Using Regional Panel Data.”
Dr. Dorria Khairy El-Sayed, Assistant Professor of Agricultural Extension, Faculty of Agriculture (July-August 2007): Research on the role of women in agricultural technology transfer and extension with Nancy Bull, a member of UConn's project team member. Drs. Bull and Khairi co-wrote a paper titled “Determination of the Factors Affecting Usefulness of Rural Peoples from Extension Centers (Comparative Study between Menoufia Governate in ARE and Connecticut State in USA).” Dr. Khairi also visited several farm and agriculture organizations in Connecticut to learn “on the ground” how extension services are offered. Her visits included:

Dr. Ayman Abou Zeid, Professor of Agricultural Economics, Faculty of Agriculture, is spending the 2007-08 academic year at UConn, funded by the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau. At UConn he is working with Professor Farhed Shah on water resources management and with Professor Boris Bravo-Ureta on agricultural productivity analysis.
